White Spruce - Picea Glauca (Moench) Voss

White Spruce designate the “tree line”.
Likes to be in mixed forest habitat; White Birch, Balsam Fir and Trembling Aspen. Deer, rabbits, porcupines and birds feed on bark, branches buds and seeds. Young seedlings sensitive to frost so plant in protected area.
Undergrowth species often include green alder, prickly rose, mountain cranberry, bunchberry and Labrador-tea. ( See “Why native plants are important”)
