American Elm - Ulmus Americana
Large and graceful
• 100+ feet (30+ m)
• Full sun, but can tolerate a bit of shade.
• Moist to well-drained soils.
American Elms populations have reduced significantly due to Dutch Elm disease. A few small to medium-sized American elms survive in woodlands, suburban areas, and occasionally cities, where most often the survivors had been isolated from other elms and thus spared a constant exposure to the fungus.
