American Beech - Fagus grandifolia
Grand
• 50+ feet (15+ m)
A sturdy imposing tree with a short trunk and wide spreading crown. Until the invention of the chainsaw, Beech trees were often left to grow, as the wood was too tough and heavy to cut by hand. Opossums, porcupines, bears and humans love the nuts.
